About us
Canalside Studios is the in-house games development studio at the University of Huddersfield, manned by a core team of placement students from the games design and programming courses at the university, with additional help from volunteers.
The studio is a professional and commercial development studio, allowing the students involved to work in a professional environment whilst learning, using the latest technology to provide products to a range of clients.
The Team [2009-2010]
This year’s team is an all star cast spawned from the remains of human decency and shame (DON’T HURT ME!!). Slightly unconventionally, we have 5 programmers and 3 designers compared to the 4/4 ratio from previous years.
So, without any further ado, here are your people’s champions:
The Programmers

Ben Blakemore
Known for laying down his uber CoD ownage and his hacking last stand. Ben is not always gracious in defeat; he does like to cry. He’s a talented programmer although this awesome skill can only really be achieved when in ‘BenLand’ (basically he goes in to a programming coma).

William Leonard
Known for his taste in 90’s music (spice girls anyone?) He is the blondest member of CSS with a love of white chocolate. Some believe his alter ego to be the milky bar kid. When not working he enjoys cigarette breaks, mixed with a little bit of karate, though not at the same time.

Oscar Mullan
Known as the furriest and most Polish member of the CSS team. Oscar sports a look know in the trade as "hobo-chic". Oscar is usually found either sat at his desk indulging in his naughty little pleasure, which is Donkey, or filling his face with the world’s biggest butty. 'Yeeeeh!

Barnaby Smith
Known for wearing a wide array of multi-coloured shirts, Barnaby is the second blondest man in CSS. When not working, he can usually be found lurking behind the other programmers silently judging their progress. He likes winding up Billy and really really really really hates MARMALADE!

Chris White
Not too long ago in a studio far, far away Chris has found a new problem and is gracing us with his colourful understanding of the English language. But not to despair he will soon pull his ogre face and oM NoM the problem away... Chris loves eating cheese, while swearing in the studio.

The Artists/ Designers

Lap Pun Cheung
Known for dressing up as a ninja at the weekend, Lap spends his daytime drawing pretty pictures (or at least that’s what he tells us). Lap is well known for trying to get out of work believing that if he says “No, no, no, no, no” he doesn’t need an actual reason. Ha!

Dave Connely
Dave is the cleverest person with the ego to match, only seconded by Oscar Mullan. He is good at stuff, but also not good at other things. Loco Roco is Dave's most favourite game in the whole wide world and he's an epic 3D artist! His most used quote is “We will never get along” .

Helen Fricker
The studios personal dose of oestrogen, when Helen is not feeding her coffee addiction she can be found designing a slew of stunning 2D artwork. Since taking up kickboxing, nobody in the team dares argue with her.
